I am currently teaching a fiber art class. In this class are students that are in grades 2-4. We have many exciting projects planned but this is our first! We made string art on slices of pine. The focus of this lesson was on line and pop art. Safety was a HUGE thing because all the students did the whole thing themselves, including the nailing. Here are a few pictures of the process and how they turned out! The students loved the project, I think the fact that they got to use a hammer and nails was something completely different for them and they were very excited about it. They loved the patterns that the yarn made and created all the designs themselves.
First the students created a plan on paper, then transferred that plan onto their wood slice. After, they hammered the nails into their design.
After they hammered all their nails they used yarn to make layers of designs.
